Cargo securing in the truck

Essential for the safety of drivers, road traffic and the environment

Proper cargo securing in the truck significantly increases general road safety and the protection of the driver. Furthermore, with the help of various accessories such as lashing tracks, lashing straps with ratchet and tension straps, various techniques and the right equipment, valuable cargo and the environment can be protected from damage.

Tension straps for optimal securing

Before transport, the cargo must be secured to the truck or the load carrier, such as a trailer or platform vehicle, skip or container, in accordance with the legal requirements. The securing methods differ depending on the type of vehicle and what anchorage points it is equipped with, and the type of goods to be transported.

Correct cargo securing in the truck, such as using a lashing track or cargo bars as cargo securing, requires personnel and/or drivers who are well trained, know the vehicle and its structure precisely and therefore know what kind of equipment is suitable for securing cargo, such as tensioning boards in the truck, restraint systems or nets, lashing straps or tension straps, lashing trough or anti-slip mats. Our online shop offers the best equipment for every type of load that makes securing the load in the truck considerably easier and can also be retrofitted. For example, a lashing track is suitable for fastening to the side walls.

Force-fit or form-fit cargo securing

In order to correctly secure the cargo on the truck, you need to have a thorough understanding of force-fit and form-fit securing. Force-fit cargo securing in trucks means that various direct lashing or tie-down lashing methods of are used to firmly fix the transport goods to the floor of the loading area, for example by using tracks in conjunction with a lashing strap with ratchet or tension straps. The ratchet lashing strap makes it particularly easy to securely fix the goods being transported.

The various lashing devices are subjected to high mechanical stresses at the edges of the load, as tension straps, for example, do not necessarily slide evenly over their corners. In order to reduce the stress and at the same time achieve better force transmission, additional edge protection profiles are useful.

Another important aspect in the field of securing cargo on trucks is the friction that builds up between the loading surface and the goods being transported. The higher this is, the fewer additional measures need to be used to secure the load in the truck. For example, anti-slip mats have proven their worth for securing cargo as they increase the friction between the vehicle floor / loading surface and the load.

To secure cargo professionally by direct or tie-down lashing, the following tools are required, for example:

  • Cargo bars for cargo securing
  • Locking rods and tensioning boards in the truck
  • Tension straps / lashing straps with ratchet
  • Edge protection, as additional protection for the goods to be transported and the lashing materials used

Form-fit cargo securing in the truck

Form-fit cargo securing in the truck involves ensuring that palletised transport goods, among other things, abut / rest against all sides of the load compartment. Goods are thus kept stable with the help of the vehicle’s structure alone. However, if there are still certain clearances between individual goods and the vehicle boundary or if the vehicle does not have sufficient boundaries, other form fit methods must be used. Among other things, filling materials such as empty pallets are suitable for this purpose.

Within the scope of form-fit securing, goods must be loaded flush and without gaps. The goods are then secured using diagonal lashing, transverse lashing or head lashing. Other aids include:

  • Lashing straps and lashing chains
  • Anti-slip mats
  • Tension straps / lashing straps with ratchet
  • Lashing tracks
  • Shoring beams / decking beams

Securing cargo in different ways

Shoring beams, for example, are an effective and simple way to secure the load in a tarpaulin truck.

If trailers or tarpaulin vehicles have few or no lashing points / anchorage points, lashing tracks can be used, for example. Furthermore, lashing eyes and lashing troughs are suitable in this case. This makes it possible to quickly create additional lashing points in order to fix the goods to be transported as flexible points using tension straps.
